Skin care trends come and go, but one thing that remains is natural skin care. You may have heard of these ingredients, but what are probiotics and prebiotics? What does green tea and pomegranate really do for the skin? We help you answer your questions!

The differences between Probiotics and Prebiotics?

To make this easier to understand, we start by explaining what a microbiome is. A microbiome is the skin's natural composition of microorganisms. It acts much like an immune system and takes care of inflammation and protects against external stresses. When your skin is dry, red or reactive, the skin's microbiome may be out of balance.

Probiotics, also called the good bacteria in the skin's microbiome, help your skin to feel good. Prebiotics instead act as nutrients for the good bacteria. Together, they help to create better conditions for the good bacteria on our skin surface. They make the skin more resistant and prevent harmful bacteria from growing there.

All skin types can use skin care with probiotics and prebiotics in. We especially recommend that a skin that is sensitive, stressed or irritated to use pro- and prebiotics in their skin care.

Green tea in skin care

Green tea contains antioxidants called catechins and polyphenols that, among other things, protect the skin against UV damage, wrinkles and premature aging. You could call green tea a real anti-aging boost! Because it contains antioxidants, it can also help the skin reduce redness and inflammation. Green tea works for all skin types, but is used beneficially by sensitive skin as exposed to impurities.

What does pomegranate do for wonders in skin care?

Pomegranate is, just like green tea, full of antioxidants but also anti-inflammatory substances, ellagic acid and punicic acid. The fruit is also very rich in vitamin C and potassium. Many people tend to feel that when they use pomegranate in their skin care, it makes the skin softer and elastic. You can often find pomegranate in products for mature skin as it can boost cell renewal and collagen production.
